Evelyn “Dolores” Shaw Underwood, 85, passed away  peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 4, 2023 in her home in Buffalo, Kentucky.  Dolores suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dolores was Baptized as a youth at Campbellsville Baptist Church and Christian by faith.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Boone Underwood, her son Alfred Stewart Underwood; her parents, Robert John Shaw II, and Virginia Olene White Humphress; her brothers Robert John Shaw III and John Alvin Humphress II; her infant sister, Eva Jane Humphress, and her step-brothers, Jolly Humphress, Guy Humphress, and Hancel Humphress.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Walter) Maeser, M.D. of Louisville, Kentucky; her sons, Douglas (Bonnie) Underwood, and Gregory Underwood, both of Buffalo, Kentucky; A step-son, Russell Dean Underwood of Kansas City, Kansas; her six grandchildren, Walter Maeser, Jr., Candace (Adrian) Livingstone, Russell Douglas Underwood, Rachel (Carley) Fudge, Tiffany Underwood, and Jessica (Seth) Long; 10  great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Charlotte) Humphress of Campbellsville and her sister, Kathleen (Paul) Campos of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Dolores was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother, who enjoyed preparing meals and desserts for family and friends. As her children grew older, she pursed her joy of cooking by obtaining an Associate Degree in culinary Arts at Elizabethtown Community College. She was honored to cook in the Dining Facilities at Fort Knox for many years, retiring at the age of 70. Having an artistic flare, Dolores made gorgeous cakes for family and friends, including holiday cakes for the Soldiers at Fort Knox.

Funeral service is Friday, August 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the William R. Rust Funeral Home, 612 N. Lincoln Blvd. Hodgenville, Ky. 42748.

Visitation will be Friday, August 18, 2023, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Shannon McCubbins officiating, with entombment to follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at 2:30 p.m.
